چکیده مقاله:

Background: Vitiligo is an acquired, idiopathic, and common depigmentation disorder of the skin that affects people of all ages and both sexes equally in the worldwide. Although etiology of the disease is unknown, there are theories such as environment and genetic factors. Methods: In this article, we collected and summarized the appropriate manuscripts regarding the epidemiology and genetics by using the terms vitiligo and genetic epidemiology in PubMed and Google scholar. Results: Studies showed the highest prevalence of disease in African countries, but with regard to distribute disease in different areas, environmental factors are as other causes of vitiligo and three genes FOXP3, XBP1 and TSLP had the most association with the disease. Conclusion: It seems that recognition of the genetic base of vitiligo will supply new insight therapies for its. Therefore, more genetic studies are needed to discover the genes and causes linked to clinical aspects of this disease.

The genetics and epidemiology of generalized vitiligo

vitiligo Generalized vitiligo (GV) is the most common depigmentation disorder, in which acquired multifocal patches of white skin and overlying hair result from loss of melanocytes in the involved areas (Figure 1) [1,2]. Th e prevalence of GV is approximately 0.5% in various populations [3], with an average age of onset at about 24 years and occurring with approximately equal frequency in males...

Pneumoviruses: Molecular Genetics and Reverse Genetics

Pneumoviruses are responsible for significant respiratory disease in their hosts and represent a major problemfor human and animal health. Pneumoviruses are members of the family Paramyxoviridae, subfamilyPneumovirinae and the virus particles consist of a negative-sense, nonsegmented RNA genome within a helical nucleocapsid structure enveloped in a lipid membrane derived from the ho...

Current aspects of vitiligo genetics

Vitiligo is a common acquired depigmentation disorder of the skin manifested by the presence of white macules. The disease occurs at a frequency of approximately 1-4% of the world population. Currently, the most popular theory of vitiligo development is a multifactorial hypothesis according to which genetic conditions predispose vitiligo macules to occur as a result of specific environmental fa...

Genetic Epidemiology and Heritability of Vitiligo

1.1 Prevalence & incidence The population prevalence of vitiligo ranges from 0.1% to 2% and shows a wide variability among ethnic groups (Bolognia et al., 1998; Hann and Nordlund, 2000). Whereas the estimated population prevalence of vitiligo is approximately 0.38% for Caucasians in the United States and Northern Europe (Howitz et al., 1977), vitiligo affects 0.19% of the population in China (X...
